Boston
University Researchers Use Plexon System in Recent
Memory Formation Discovery
Researchers
at Boston University, led by neurobiologist Joe Z. Tsien, Ph.D., have discovered
the neural coding units of th brain for forming memory, as well as a mathematical
way to universally measure and categorize brain codes across different individuals
and animal species.
To find these results, Tsien used a Multichannel Acquisition Processor (MAP)
from Plexon Inc. The MAP system is used in neurophysiological research to record
the activity of a large number of individual brain cells (neurons) as well
as lower frequency EEG signals (field potentials) during different behavioral
states. Tsien also used Plexon's Offline Sorter software, which can be used
to select and classify signals from individual neurons.
