Plexon Inc (www.plexoninc.com) develops and sells biomedical instrumentation systems to the neuro-engineering research market. Our customers are primarily universities and medical schools with some government labs and pharmaceutical companies. Our products are used to record and analyze the activity of the brain and nervous system. The studies range from fundamental nervous system research to practical neuro-prosthetics.
Plexon software engineers develop and maintain Windows applications for neuroscience data acquisition, signal processing, data analysis, and scientific visualization. Successful candidates will be self starters who have demonstrated the capability to see projects all the way through from requirements gathering to design, implementation, and support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, implement, test, release, and support software products.
- Keep abreast of scientific and technical developments as they relate to Plexon’s product domains.
- Coordinate with sales, marketing, software engineering, hardware engineering, documentation, manufacturing, and executive personnel to define and prioritize product requirements.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Programming experience in technical applications for Microsoft Windows.
- Proficient in Visual C++ using MFC.
- Desire and ability to create clear, maintainable designs and code.
- Adaptability to existing company standards, methodologies, and patterns.
- CS/EE/Physics/Mathematics/Neuroscience/Biomedical Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE (the more, the better):
- Data acquisition.
- Applied mathematics and computational statistics.
- User interface design and implementation.
- Pattern recognition, cluster and wavelet analysis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with internal customers to develop specifications for products and plans for development, verification, and integration of the products.
- Design, implement, and verify analog and digital electronic products and systems using modern EDA tools.
- Resolve mechanical design issues as they arise.
ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:
- Keep abreast of developments in the electronics engineering field as they relate to Plexon products and customers.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- For analog, digital, and mixed signal products and systems:
- Knowledge and principles of electronic theory and design.
- Researching, developing, designing and verifying electronic products and systems.
- Designing and building test equipment.
- Using computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment such as ORCAD and PADS PCB to perform engineering tasks.
- Degree in electrical engineering (EE), biomedical engineering (BME), or similar fields.

- Microelectronics assembly.
- Some FPGA design in VHDL.

Are you ready for a change from academia? Help our customers unlock the brain’s secrets. We seek a motivated person to service and expand our neuroscience research customer base using a collaborative sales methodology. No previous sales experience necessary.
FACTORS FOR SUCCESS:
- Experience in bioengineering, biology, chemistry, neuroscience (especially electrophysiology), electrical engineering or similar fields.
- Demonstrated problem solving ability in highly technical environments.
- Willingness to learn technical details of our products and their applications in a variety of research environments.
- Demonstrated ability to work with talented investigators in a research field.
- Experience using EEG or neural data acquisition and analysis software and equipment in a laboratory environment, especially for extracellular spike signals.
- Desire to succeed and be recognized.
- Well developed interpersonal skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Become expert enough in all of the company’s products to be able to operate, explain, sell, install, and troubleshoot them.
- Use your technical knowledge of Plexon products to recommend specific solutions to our customers.
- Conduct all activities involved in prospecting leads, quoting, closing sales, and post-sale support.
- Exhibit products at neuroscience trade shows.
- Keep abreast of developments in the neuroscience research market.
- Champion new product development requests from customers.
REQUIRED:
- Degree (PhD or MS preferred) in neuroscience, electrophysiology, biomedical engineering (BME), electrical engineering (EE), biology, chemistry, or similar fields.
- Citizenship, documentation, and inclination allowing moderate travel both within and outside of the USA.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English.
